Port Blair

Geographically east of the Indian mainland, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands float in beautiful isolation in the Bay of Bengal. These lovely undulating islands, or islets, which number around 836, were once a hill range that stretched from Myanmar to Indonesia. They are now covered in deep, wet, evergreen forests and an unending variety of exotic flora and wildlife. About 550 of these islands, 28 of which are inhabited, are in the Andaman Group. There are 22 primary islands in the lesser Nicobars, 10 of which are inhabited. The 150 km wide Ten Degree Channel divides the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is headquartered in Port Blair. The islands’ natural landscape can be reached via Port Blair. Port Blair is an island community where visitors may go snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, and get a taste of the local history and culture. The town’s focal point is the Aberdeen Bazaar.

While some were taken to Viper Island, others were left behind to care for the island. The Navy is now in charge of it, and the government has used a Light to preserve its heritage.
